When this petite, misfit in dark-rimmed glasses appeared with DL Hughley before an audience of 3,000 she summarized it all: "I used to think I liked myself but then I realized I was just using me to get to someone else." For Dana Eagle, being a misfit has had its privileges — her self-deprecating, off-beat, and often inspiring humor makes her a hit with college, nightclub, television and concert audiences. Ms. Eagle taps into the place in all of us that continues to feel out of step and alone at the lunch table: "Studies now show that eighty percent of us suffer from depression — and the other twenty percent of you cause it."
Rejected by her schoolmates, the New Jersey Native explains: "When you don't have a lot of friends growing up, the seesaw is just a really low bench." And thus ensued her lifelong pursuit to find acceptance. When she found standup comedy, that acceptance came quickly and led to appearances on Comedy Central's Premium Blend, national commercials, and a host position on the Oxygen Network.
Showtime commissioned Ms. Eagle to write and film her own comic interstitials for their premiere channel ShowNEXT. She was showcased in HBO's US Comedy Arts Festival in her solo show, Stones From Glass Houses followed by the second in the series, Mood Disorders: A Light-Hearted Romp Through Crippling Depression, featured at the Los Angeles Women's Theatre Festival. She recently completed a pilot for the E! Entertainment Network, and has been seen in a series of memorable commercials beside Jay Mohr and football legend, Boomer Esiahson. Comedy clubs around the country are abuzz about Dana, who features for some of today's top headliners. Craig Shoemaker says: "She is engaging, personable, and (most of all) very funny. Every club owner asks to have her return. She gives the audience such a great energy and non-stop laughter, and they reflect it right back to her. She is awesome, and soon I will be begging to open for her."
And through all this success, Dana has come to a place where she too can feel beautiful — and that place is called Radio Shack.
